Tarsal tunnel syndrome happens when a nerve along the inner ankle is compressed, causing burning, tingling, numbness, or electric-shock sensations in the foot.
What causes it
Flat feet, swelling, injury, cysts, or varicose veins can press on the nerve. Symptoms often worsen with prolonged standing or walking.
Why treat it early
Left alone, nerve compression can cause lasting problems. We treat it with orthotics, anti-inflammatory injections, bracing, and physical therapy, and with minimally invasive surgery to relieve pressure in persistent cases.
