A foot fracture needs the right care to heal well. Recovery depends on which bone is broken and how severe the break is.
The general timeline
Many fractures heal over about six weeks in a boot or cast, followed by a gradual return to activity. Displaced or complex breaks may need surgery and a longer recovery.
Help it heal
Follow weight-bearing instructions, keep the area protected, attend follow-ups so healing is monitored, and ease back into activity as directed. Stress fractures, common in runners, need rest and a careful return.
