Turf toe is a sprain of the big-toe joint that happens when the toe bends too far upward, often in sports played on hard surfaces.
Treatment
Most cases respond to rest, ice, anti-inflammatory care, splinting, and activity changes. Severe ligament damage may need further treatment.
Getting back to sport
Many athletes recover in about four to six weeks, with a gradual return-to-play plan to avoid reinjury.
