Foot odor usually comes from sweat plus bacteria, and sometimes fungus, in warm, closed shoes. The good news is it is very manageable.
What helps
- Wash and dry feet daily, including between the toes
- Wear moisture-wicking socks and breathable shoes
- Rotate shoes so they fully dry out
- Use foot powder, and treat any athlete's foot
When to see a podiatrist
Persistent odor, excessive sweating, or signs of a fungal infection are worth an evaluation, since treating the underlying cause solves the smell.
