What is Tenex?

Tenex is a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive procedure used to treat and remove scar tissue in and around damaged tendons and ligaments. Tenex uses high-frequency vibrations and ultrasound technology to remove the accumulated build-up of scar tissue and promote blood circulation and mobility to the area so that it can heal better.

Since the approval of Tenex in 2013, over 80,000 patients have undergone the procedure, with exceptional results. One of our award-winning podiatrists, Dr. Erin K. Koprince, is a certified Tenex Treatment specialist and she can discuss the procedure with you to determine if it is the right solution for your foot condition.

What Can Tenex Treat?

The Tenex method can be used to treat a variety of soft-tissue injuries throughout various joints in the body, including the knee, elbow, shoulder, and around your feet. Our team uses Tenex to care for Achillies tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, two conditions that result in damaged tendons and ligaments.

According to one study, the Tenex method was 96% successful in patients with plantar fasciitis who underwent the procedure. Out of 53 patients involved in the study, 51 of them reported that they were pleased with their results and that they would recommend Tenex to a friend.

What is the Tenex Procedure Like?

Compared to many other forms of operation, Tenex is relatively mild and straightforward.

After Tenex has been decided upon, your NYC podiatrist will use local anesthesia to numb your foot and use ultrasound imaging to scan for scar tissue. Once the scar tissue has been located, a small incision will be made in your heel for the specialized tool, the Tenex Tissue Removal System, to be inserted. This system releases high-frequency vibrations that destroy the scar tissue that is blocking the body from healing itself.

Once completed, your downtown NYC podiatrist will bandage your incision, and you will be free to leave the clinic. The entire procedure should take less than an hour, and you should be able to return to your normal life immediately.

Tenex Recovery

The total recovery period from start to finish should be between three to six weeks. During this time, your foot doctor will recommend using ice for the swelling, anti-inflammatories as needed, and as much rest as possible to promote healing in the area. After about one week of extra rest and recovery, you should be able to live your life as usual for the remainder of the recovery period, provided that you take special care of your healing foot.
