Custom orthotics are specially designed medical shoe inserts created to support and align the feet properly during standing, walking, and physical activity. Unlike over-the-counter inserts, custom orthotics are tailored specifically to the unique structure, biomechanics, and needs of your feet.
Foot dysfunction and improper alignment can place excessive stress on the muscles, tendons, joints, and ligaments of the feet and lower body. Over time, this may contribute to pain, instability, deformities, and injuries affecting the feet, ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.
Custom orthotics are commonly recommended for conditions such as flat feet, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, metatarsalgia, and other biomechanical foot disorders.
At our New York foot clinic, we perform a detailed evaluation of your foot structure, gait, pressure distribution, and movement patterns to determine the most effective orthotic solution for your specific needs.
To create your custom orthotics, our podiatrists take precise molds or scans of your feet and design a prescription-based orthotic device tailored to correct abnormal mechanics, improve alignment, and reduce strain on painful structures.
Custom orthotics are designed not only to relieve pain but also to improve overall foot function, prevent injuries, and provide long-term support during daily activities and sports.

Many patients experience significant relief from foot, ankle, knee, hip, and lower back pain after beginning orthotic therapy. Improved support and alignment can also help enhance walking comfort, athletic performance, balance, and overall mobility.

Custom orthotics are highly effective for long-term management of many biomechanical foot conditions and may help prevent worsening deformities and repetitive stress injuries.
Custom orthotics are fabricated specifically for your feet to provide targeted support, pressure redistribution, and improved biomechanical function. These devices are tailored to your condition, activity level, and walking pattern.
A detailed analysis of your walking mechanics and foot alignment helps identify abnormal pressure points and movement patterns contributing to pain or dysfunction.
Patients may receive recommendations for supportive footwear that works together with orthotics to maximize comfort, stability, and treatment effectiveness.
Orthotics may help prevent progression of deformities, reduce repetitive stress injuries, improve posture, and support healthier movement patterns over time.
Because orthotics are non-invasive devices, there is no surgical recovery period. Most patients gradually adapt to wearing their orthotics over several days to weeks as their body adjusts to improved alignment and support.
Long-term use is often recommended to maintain symptom relief, improve foot function, and prevent recurrence of pain or injury. Periodic adjustments or replacement may be needed over time depending on wear and changes in foot structure.
If you suffer from conditions such as flat feet or hammertoe, our NYC foot doctors are able to create custom orthotics to enhance the functionality of your feet.

Sometimes scar tissue builds up in a tendon and causes the tendon to lose its elasticity. At that point, chronic Achilles tendinitis can be treated by removing the scar tissue using a minimally invasive procedure like Tenex. This uses a wand that transmits ultrasonic energy to break through the scar tissue leaving healthy tissue behind. Downtime is minimal and return to normal activity is about a week.
Grab a resistance band (or even a stretchy t-shirt)! Place the band or shirt around the ball of your foot. Pull the two ends of the band or shirt towards you until you feel a nice stretch in the back of your leg. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds, and relax for 10 seconds. Repeat this 5-10 times for both legs!
Achilles tendonitis rarely requires surgery. However, if treatment is delayed or neglected, there could be further damage such as a tendon tear. This would require surgical repair, and although we can do this with minimally invasive techniques, it is better to prevent damage when possible. Don’t ignore your pain. See your podiatrist as soon as possible.
