Plantar warts are common, non-cancerous skin growths caused by a viral infection that enters through tiny cuts or openings on the bottom of the foot. These warts often appear as small, rough, fleshy growths surrounded by thickened skin or callus tissue. Because they develop on weight-bearing areas of the foot, plantar warts can become painful and make walking uncomfortable.
Plantar warts may contain tiny black dots, interrupted skin lines, and tenderness when pressure is applied to the area.
Proper diagnosis is important to ensure the growth is truly a wart and not another skin condition. In many cases, a biopsy may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis before treatment begins.
Our foot doctors offer a wide range of customized wart treatments depending on the size, location, severity, and persistence of the wart. Treatments may include chemical therapy, cryotherapy, laser treatment, microwave immunotherapy, or surgical removal for stubborn or recurring cases.
Early treatment helps prevent the wart from spreading, becoming more painful, or causing difficulty with walking and daily activities.

With proper treatment, plantar warts can be successfully eliminated and healthy skin can return. Multiple treatments may be required depending on the severity of the wart and the bodyβs immune response.

Successful treatment is typically indicated by the return of normal skin lines and relief of pain while walking.
Specialized topical medications are used to gradually remove infected skin layers and destroy wart tissue. Multiple treatment sessions are often required for complete removal.
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart tissue. The treated area forms a blister, allowing dead tissue to shed naturally while helping eliminate the virus.
Laser therapy uses focused laser energy to target and destroy wart tissue beneath the skin. This treatment is often recommended for persistent or painful plantar warts.
Microwave Immunotherapy stimulates your bodyβs immune system to attack and eliminate the wart-causing virus. This advanced treatment is especially effective for stubborn or recurring plantar warts and often requires only one or two sessions.
The length of treatment for plantar warts depends on the size, depth, and persistence of the wart, as well as the treatment method used. Chemical treatments and cryotherapy often require multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to fully eliminate the wart tissue. Microwave Immunotherapy and laser therapy may provide faster results, particularly for stubborn or recurring warts.
After treatment, mild soreness, blistering, or skin sensitivity may occur temporarily as the treated tissue heals. Most patients are able to continue normal daily activities with minimal downtime. Complete healing and restoration of healthy skin may take several weeks depending on the severity of the wart and the bodyβs immune response.

Sometimes scar tissue builds up in a tendon and causes the tendon to lose its elasticity. At that point, chronic Achilles tendinitis can be treated by removing the scar tissue using a minimally invasive procedure like Tenex. This uses a wand that transmits ultrasonic energy to break through the scar tissue leaving healthy tissue behind. Downtime is minimal and return to normal activity is about a week.
Grab a resistance band (or even a stretchy t-shirt)! Place the band or shirt around the ball of your foot. Pull the two ends of the band or shirt towards you until you feel a nice stretch in the back of your leg. Hold this stretch for 30 seconds, and relax for 10 seconds. Repeat this 5-10 times for both legs!
Achilles tendonitis rarely requires surgery. However, if treatment is delayed or neglected, there could be further damage such as a tendon tear. This would require surgical repair, and although we can do this with minimally invasive techniques, it is better to prevent damage when possible. Don’t ignore your pain. See your podiatrist as soon as possible.
